It is time once again to ask the most important question to gamers when it comes to their hobby this weekend: Whatcha’ Playin’?
For those of us that constantly chase the new releases I feel like we are in a bit of a lull as we wait for big titles like Kingdom Hearts 3 and Anthem to come out. This is the perfect time to spend your weekends playing games that you might have missed out on before.
I’ve been doing just that lately, I finished off Darksiders 3 just last night, so look forward to my review in the coming weeks. This weekend I’ll be playing one of the weirdest assortment of games ever.
Yo-Kai Watch
You read that right, I’m playing Yo-Kai Watch–a game that was released 4 years ago that most consider a Pokemon rip off. I always enjoyed the anime/cartoon that my kids watched, I honestly thought it was far more clever and funny than anything I’d seen on Pokemon, but my Yo-Kai love affair never went deeper for some reason.
For the last 4 years my younger brother has been going on and on about the virtues of the franchise, he is a mega fan and has been doing his best to convince me to play. I borrowed the title from him and started playing last night, and as a warning I may have some very hot takes coming in soon.
I’m not so sure about the battle system, but I’m really enjoying the setting and light hearted story. I think that there is an immense amount of charm in the game, and I love seeing all of the Yo-Kai designs and personalities.
Overwatch
At this point I don’t know why I even bother putting this game on here, you should just always assume I’m playing Overwatch. That being said it is somewhat of a PSA, and I’m going to make a real push into getting the rest of my wins this weekend for the ongoing Ana Bastet event.
Essentially 9 wins will net you a win emote for Ana, a spray, and an amazing skin, but you have to get in there and do it before the 21st when the promotion ends.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
See? I told you it was going to be weird.
Kingdoms of Amalur is one of the best games on the Xbox 360, and I was extremely excited it hit backwards compatibility on the Xbox One. Then…I promptly forgot about it.
I saw it in the store the other day and suddenly remembered, purchasing it on the spot. It doesn’t hurt that there is a possible bright spot in the troubled history of this game in the fact that THQ Nordic recently picked up the rights to the title. Here is hoping for a sequel, but in the interim I’m falling in love with the game all over again.
So what are you playing this weekend? Let me know in the comments below, and as always, have a great day!
I played Kingdoms of Amalur, and while it wasn’t my favorite game in the world, I enjoyed it for what it was. My weekend will be spent obsessively playing a few roguelike titles that I started playing because of a post I’m writing. Darkest Dungeon, in particular, is my new love.

I fell in love with Kingdoms of Amalur, mostly due to the writing of R.A. Salvatore, and the deep customization of your hero.
I’ve heard so much about Darkest Dungeon, I need to try it some day, but I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to games of that type.

I’m getting back into Slime Rancher, and I’m finally playing a game on adventure mode, rather than casual.

Slime Rancher is one of those games I’m eventually going to put a lot more time into.

I’m going to be playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I’m working through it very slowly and exploring everywhere.

I thought about getting into that again. I played it for 15 hours before becoming overwhelmed by the amount of content.

Big Overwatch and KOA fan. Feel like Reckoning was lauded by critics, but very overlooked by gamers. I hardly know anyone else that played it.
As for what I’ll be playing this weekend, I’m working my way through my second play through of Hitman 2. The game has incredible replay value because there are so many different ways you can go about assassinations.
