Weekend Whatcha’ Playin’

It is time once again to ask the most important question to gamers when it comes to their hobby this weekend: Whatcha’ Playin’?

Surprise!

No, I’ve not yet shuffled off this mortal coil. Instead I’ve been insanely busy with work, chores, and the daily struggles that come with having a wife on an opposite schedule and two children.

You know who has two thumbs and really needs a weekend of gaming? This guy!

And what timing! We just so happen to be coming up on the weekend. This weekend I’ll be admiring crafts, thwiping my way through New York, and polishing off a retro styled gem on my Switch.

Yoshi’s Crafted World

I cannot stress to you how much fun I’ve been having playing this with my six year old daughter. It is the perfect game to play with her, as the chill nature of the game that focuses more on exploration more than pixel perfect platforming lines up perfectly with her relative lack of skill in that area. I cannot stress the joy it brings me for her to point out cleverly crafted objects in the game, go back through levels to find adorable Poochy puppies, or to play Yoshi’s version of hide and seek with various objects throughout the levels.

I’m sure that as an older gamer some people playing single player will find this to be too easy, but it is the perfect thing to kick back and enjoy with the kiddos.

Spider-Man: City That Never Sleeps

I didn’t grab the Spider-Man season pass when it was first released because I simply believe in waiting until the content is available typically before jumping on board. Last weekend the pass was on sale for a cool sixteen dollars, so I could not longer resist.

I’m having an incredible amount of fun going back to this game (one that you’ll recall I was quite fond of), and playing through the DLC has given me an all new appreciation for the game. It does something that most DLC doesn’t, which is continuing different plot points and smaller story threads from the main game. I’m getting ready to put the first episode to bed with a 100% clear and I can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Blaster Master Zero 2

Somebody might want to explain to Inti Creates how numbers work, but nobody has to explain to them how retro gaming should feel–they nail that all on their own thank-you-very-much. The original zero title launched near the beginning of the launch of the Switch, and was a very well done remake of the original Blaster Master. The sequel so far takes everything the original remake did and improves upon it, expanding the scope while providing new abilities for both Jason and his trusty tank Sofia.

Jf you have even a remote fondness for games from the NES/SNES era then this is a game you should probably check out. I should have a review posted on it in the coming weeks.

So enough about me, the real question is what are you playing this weekend? Let me know in the comments below.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Looking forward to playing a bit more of The Division 2 and maybe some Trials Rising. I have an itch to play Sekiro, but I think I should try to finish up one of these games before trying that.

  2. Well, I’ve been binging Borderlands and Borderlands 2 with the announcement of the third game coming out, but I’m starting to feel a bit burned out, so I may try something else for a while. I started Mafia III and got sidetracked, so that might be a good one to return to.
